Description

Welcome to Bay Ridge Cottage!

The Cottage is situated on Linekin Neck overlooking Linekin Bay in beautiful East Boothbay. The Cottage was built on land originally deeded to the first owner, Gideon Meigs, by the Boothbay Land Company in 1894. The house was built in 1920 and is situated on a rock ledge at the bottom right of a “L” shaped 1.1-acre lot. The long section of the L stretches nearly 400 feet up the ridge, while the portion where the house sits is 100 feet deep from Ocean Point Road to an old, abandoned cistern visible 50 feet above the fenced-in side yard. Well digging being impractical on the rock ledge, the early owners of the property collected rain water in that cistern.

The current owners remodeled the house in early 2022. In addition to a new kitchen, the bedrooms and bathrooms were also remodeled, as was the attached shed, now known as the bunk house, behind the kitchen. The front entrance to the house, which formerly led to Ocean Point Road from the porch, was virtually unused and has been relocated to the middle of the cottage on the driveway side. This change not only made entry and egress easier, it better balanced the appearance of the house on that side.

The French door entrance opens into what has been called the music room by owners for as long as anyone can remember. The music room is comfortably furnished with a couch, leather sitting chair, bookcases and a desk. There is also a multi-function Canon printer/copier/scanner near the desk for guest use, which is on the SpectrumSetup-F7 network. From the music room one enters the living room through double glass paned doors. The living room is also furnished with a couch, two comfortable sitting chairs and a number of other chairs around the room. A 50-inch TV is mounted over the large fireplace and can be tilted and moved for viewing from side to side. The fireplace may not be burned due to insurance restrictions. This, of course, applies to the other 2 fireplaces, the one in the dining room as well as the fireplace above in the master bedroom.

Two more double glass paned doors lead to the dining room, which has a large cherry dining table that seats six (6) in comfortable upholstered chairs. The table has two leafs (found in the living room closet) that can be added, one to each table end, when there are greater than 6 to be seated. The wall art in the dining room are local scenes of Ocean Point.

Between the kitchen and dining room there is a broom closet under the stairs, which has cleaning materials, an iron and ironing board, vacuum cleaner, cleaning supplies and, of course, a broom, dust mop, Swiffer, etc.

There is a rear entrance to the kitchen through the breezeway between the kitchen and bunkhouse. The kitchen features a gas range and oven, dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave and farmhouse style porcelain sink. The countertop is white quartz and there are plenty of custom cabinets. The kitchen also features a table and six chairs in front of the triple windows that look out to the fenced side yard. In the side yard there is a fire pit at the center and a corn hole game set up at the far side.

The Tide Clock to the right of the kitchen entry door from the breezeway is hung over an emergency shut off switch for the oil burner. This is information only, as the oil burner should only be turned off by this switch when exiting, if there were a fire, flood or other disaster.

The Tide Clock is set to high tide at Boothbay Harbor, and it is more or less accurate. Guests may find it very handy when planning activities around the water. The Boothbay Harbor tides can also be studied in the 2022 tide table almanac on the mantle in the dining room.

Upstairs there are three remodeled bedrooms and a bath with a large, modern shower enclosure and a washer dryer. The bedroom at the top of the stairs, referred to as the east bedroom, has a queen bed with night stands on either side, a large wardrobe and a dresser and mirror. Across the hall, the master bedroom has a king size bed with night stands, a closet and a large dresser with mirror. The WiFi connection and router are also in the master bedroom on a small utility table to the right of the dresser. The large bay windows in this room give the occupants pretty glimpses of Linekin Bay. The third bedroom, also known as the north bedroom, has a queen bed with night stands, a closet, dresser and bunk beds. This room can accommodate 4 or even 5 occupants with the twin over twin over twin bunk beds. The little closet in the northeast corner of this bedroom is kept locked with seasonal things that belong to the owners.

The linen closet in the upstairs hallway has additional towels, bedding, dust mop, broom, dust pan and brush, light bulbs and some other miscellaneous supplies.

Visitors can get peeks of Linekin Bay from the house, porch and the lawn on the other side of the driveway, where a game of badminton may be enjoyed (found in the bunk house if not already set up). No need to drive far to find a good place for a nature walk, roughly 100 yards toward Ocean Point you will find the entrance to “Linekin Burley Preserves”. The Preserves has miles of trails that wander from the Linekin Bay side of the East Boothbay peninsula to the Damariscotta River side (for more information please see Linekin Burley Preserves online). A short drive further is the peninsula’s name sake, Ocean Point. There is a little rocky beach here and a swim/dive float a short swim out. Picnicking, wading in the tidal flow, beach combing the rocky shore for sea glass, or just lingering to enjoy the salt air and the view are favorite pastimes at Ocean Point.
