Expect spectacular sunrises and sunsets from this most charming Maine guest cottage. Perched over the ocean in a picturesque little cove on Capitol Island, Barnacle has water views from every room. A separate outbuilding with one bedroom and its own bath allows for complete privacy, while the main part of this cottage is host to another 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. Alongside the deck are steps down to the ocean, and kayaks are available for your use.
This cottage was originally built to house the staff for the Albonegan Inn. Once the Inn became a private home, Barnacle was renovated to serve as a guest cottage. Capitol Island is accessible by a wooden bridge. The island is three quarters of a mile long, has 2 beaches, a marina, tennis court, and community house complete with ping pong table and rocking chairs on the porch. It's a fabulous step back in time and a great place to slow down and just breathe.
It is a scenic 4 mile drive to downtown Boothbay Harbor, and about 6 miles to the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. Please note this cottage does not have laundry facilities or television. Harbor's Choice Laundry is 4.5 miles away, and there is plenty to see and do on the island to keep everyone busy!

Barnacle Reviews

If you're looking for relaxation in a beautiful environment the Barnacle is spot on. It's a perfect summer getaway location. We enjoyed our stay and the property managers went above and beyond in making sure we were happy.

We loved the stay in the cottage, and we certainly hope to come back some time. It really is a magical place. We have no serious concerns about Barnacle, and we would certainly recommend it to other people. We cooked a lot and you have a better equipped kitchen then we have seen in some rentals (we do AirBNB a lot so we have experience with this). And we do appreciate how responsive Wendy and Tom were to things we brought up.

Loved the location/beautiful ocean view/sweet island experience. Rooms lack closets and dressers are old. Drawers do not pull out easily. We lived out of our suitcases mostly, but a fabulous view, bring binoculars to watch birds and nature. Safe for kids (ours were 6&7). Would go again.
